How to boost up your wordpress website speed

Time is money so people in the modern world are so busy. People don’t like to browse websites which take much time to load. As a result the speed and performance of a website is very important. If your website loads slowly the visitors move to another site. Because there are so many competitors like you. So in this article we are describing about How to boost up your WordPress Website Speed.

Not only visitors but also Google doesn’t like slow websites. The speed performance of websites is very important on google ranking. Therefore it is important to know how to optimize your website speed to rank your website on google and increase the traffic of your website.

Here are some important steps: by following these you can boost up your WordPress website speed.

1. Good Hosting Plan For WordPress Website Speed

It is impossible to get a fast loading website without a good hosting package. So be careful when you purchase hosting. Firstly try to buy the WordPress Hosting package from bluehost. Secondly if your traffic is from one country, buy a hosting based on that country. Moreover if you need more help or more information please contact on hosting support and tell your website feature to the customer manager they will choose a great package for you.

2. Flush the Buffer Remove

In your wordpress site when someone visits it takes 200-500 milliseconds for the backend server to deliver it on the HTML page. During this time the browser and the server remain idle.

Open your header.php file and Add <?php flush(); ?> this after the head tag like this.

flush
flush

3. Some Setup of WordPress

Before starting any critical procedure let’s make some changes in wordpress setup.

  • Firstly remove the inactive and unused plugins.
  • Secondly Make sure your wordpress version, theme and plugins are updated.
  • Thirdly Don’t use plugins which you can do using code.
  • Fourthly Remove unused media files from wordpress.
  • Finally No need to display many post on one page so make a limit of display post from wordpress dashboard -> settings -> reading.

4. Htaccess file modification

By adding some codes you can easily reduce the number of HTTP requests for loading images in other pages of your site. It can amazingly make your site faster.

Just copy and paste the code into your .htaccess file.

ExpiresActive On
ExpiresByType image/gif A604800
ExpiresByType image/png A604800
ExpiresByType image/jpg A604800
ExpiresByType image/jpeg A604800

[Note: Please take a backup of your .htaccess file before making any changes.]

You can reduce your web page size by enabling czip compression. Please add these codes to enable czip compression.

# Serve gzip compressed CSS files if they exist

# and the client accepts gzip.

RewriteCond “%{HTTP:Accept-encoding}” “gzip”

RewriteCond “%{REQUEST_FILENAME}\.gz” -s

RewriteRule “^(.*)\.css” “$1\.css\.gz” [QSA]

# Serve gzip compressed JS files if they exist

# and the client accepts gzip.

RewriteCond “%{HTTP:Accept-encoding}” “gzip”

RewriteCond “%{REQUEST_FILENAME}\.gz” -s

RewriteRule “^(.*)\.js” “$1\.js\.gz” [QSA]

# Serve correct content types, and prevent mod_deflate double gzip.

RewriteRule “\.css\.gz$” “-” [T=text/css,E=no-gzip:1]

RewriteRule “\.js\.gz$” “-” [T=text/javascript,E=no-gzip:1]

<FilesMatch “(\.js\.gz|\.css\.gz)$”>

# Serve correct encoding type.

Header append Content-Encoding gzip

# Force proxies to cache gzipped &

# non-gzipped css/js files separately.

Header append Vary Accept-Encoding

Please check the site speed and you will see an amazing change.

5. Use Caching Plugin

In wordpress speed optimization a cache plugin is really important. Cache plugin will help you to save some of your website files on the visitors browser. When they try to visit your website, the browser will show the saved file without invoking any code or request.

There are many free and paid caching plugins on wordpress directory. W3 Total Cache is really good and it’s free. You will get a good result if you can make a proper setup for this. There are many advanced features on this plugin. So I will recommend you to watch a video tutorial about this plugin.

There are many paid cache plugins. I prefer to use WP Rocket plugin as a paid caching plugin. Because it is very user friendly.

6. Image Optimization

In business, ecommerce and other normal websites, image is the big file for the web pages. It takes such a long time to load a big image. Not only WordPress but also others CMS or technology wherever your website is built image load issue is really bad for website speed. So let’s work on this.

Firstly we need to use a proper size image. Just think your website container is 1200 px so what is the use of 2000px image in your website? So we need to make a proper dimension image for our website. You can do this with any kind of photo edit software like adobe photo, adobe illustrator and something like that.

Secondly we need to optimize our images. This is the most important part in wordpress website speed optimization. Let’s learn how to do this. You can do this using two methods. First one is before uploading an image you can optimize your image from here this is really simple. It will compress your image size without changing the quality. Just see the example. Second one is using a plugin. It is an automated system. Just install and set up the smushit plugin. All of your images will be optimized automatically.

7. Minify Code

Code minification is so important for making your website faster. No need to read the extra space or something to browse a site. So do minify your code to boost up the speed of your website.

There are many css and js minification plugins in wordpress. But if you have previously activated W3 Total Cache or WP Rocket plugin in your website so no need to use another plugin. There is a scope to minify your code.

[Note: Please watch any video tutorial about these plugin setup.]

8. Database Management

Databases also play an important role in your website speed. So you need to manage the database properly. Make sure your trash file data and others unused data has been deleted. The edit you make on your website is stored on your database as revision. So you should also delete this data.  You can manage this using WP Rocket paid plugin.

9. Use CDN(Content Delivery Network) Boost Your WordPress Website Speed

In order to boost wordpress speed it is very important to use a good CDN for your website. Suppose your visitor is from the United States and your server is in the United kingdom. This is simple to take much to fully load the content. If your server location and visitors location is the same It will take less time to load. CDN helps to load static content from visitor location.

This work is done by Content Delivery Network. Once you use CDN you will notice a great change in your website speed.

Here are some best CDN companies around the world.

  • MaxCDN
  • Cloudflare
  • Cachefly

10. Extra Care of Your Page To increase WordPress Website Speed

Try to make your homepage clean such as remove extra content, heavy content, iframe content or something like this. Because the home page is mostly visited.

Please figure out which is your mostly visited page. When You will find that please try to optimize the image and others content perfectly. And also remove the unnecessary codes, scripts and content.

By following these steps you can surely speed up your wordpress site. Please don’t forget to comment about the speed optimization result.
